Peter Corfield (30th Entry)

The (Apprentice) Wheel turns full circle. In 1957 the 27th Entry Clk Secs had diminished in number to the point where they were “shared out” into various huts. One, Bryan Clarke, was deposited with the 30th. End of story? Not so! In 1965 I was fortunate to see TSR 2 flying over Wiltshire on several occasions (I was at Upavon) and despaired at the decision to cancel (and destroy) it. Unbeknown to me the second prototype TSR 2 had been kept, intact, at Boscombe Down and later, in 1968, it was spirited away to Henlow – where it was hidden by Bryan Clarke! In 1974, whilst seeking a major attraction for Cosford Museum, I found it! The story of its move to Cosford is at www.targetlock.org.ukltsr2 for those who may be interested. Having retired to live in Ludlow, Shropshire, I got a phone call one day – from Bryan Clarke – with whom I now share a post-code! Small world.
