On Remembrance Day last year I attended the service at our local war memorial as I usually do. After the parade I went to a nearby tea room wearing “beret and gongs” and ordered an all day breakfast. At an adjacent table were three young men. with whom I had no acquaintance, also eating breakfast. They left before me, and on my leaving when I went to pay the bill, the waitress informed me that the young men had paid for my meal.
As a thank you gesture I sent an article to the local press concerning the event, which was published the following week.
The response was immediate and astounding! One of the young men was the captain of Accrington Stanley F.C. who happens to live locally. The Club had seen the article and offered my wife, Jane, and I, a hospitality day for two at one of their forth coming home games.
This took place on Saturday last, 1 Feb. 2020, when we were entertained in style at the Wham Stadium by the Club for home game with Wimbledon which Accrington won 2 -1, (I should add that I am an Evertonian and have never previously had any association with Accrington)
I can’t be other than surprised and delighted that an event such as this occurred as a result of a small kind gesture.
