Almost had it – Graham May – 25th

Around November last year I had a small number of annoying physical ailments, the first of which caused me to get a gardener in to prune most of the trees. bushes and climbing plants. that I had always managed to do myself. Then I had a couple of close shaves when I nearly fell off a ladder whilst doing a minor garage door repair and later I tripped and fell full length whilst playing with Bobby, and his ball, in the local park. Fortunately, I avoided the gravel pathway but still got quite badly winded. Later I realised that I was beginning to shuffle and consequently had difficulty walking in a straight line . This prompted my wife to insist that I call it a day and start to act my age! The result was the purchase of a stand up four wheeled chair walker. which I took a liking to almost immediately. This did not mean I was off the hook by any means as a few more silly little aches and pains continued to come and go through the rest of the the year. It took an old friend to put me right by pointing out that, as I would be eighty eight years of age very soon, I should not expect too much. He also said I should ensure that our Will was in order and up to date and that I should keep the wife informed of where any other important documentation was situated. When I cracked a cheap joke about dying, he told me to grow up and think about other people as well as domestic matters. I took stock and realised that my ”devil may care” attitude had seen better days and it was time to think ahead. I did try, but to no avail as all I did was to remember my dear old mum and dad, my brother and his wife and all the various friends and relatives who have passed on. I cannot, of course, go there or make a judgement on what happened to them all but I can take time to reminisce about my own life and times, which is really all I have left. I think, therefore. I will make this my last submission as it is getting more difficult to tell whether the punctuation. the grammar or the spelling is acceptable. I will, of course, look forward to reading other members articles and wish the Association all the best in the future.
