Frank Wareham our Membership Secretary, has been contacted by member Ron Spurs (320th) giving details of a forces support charity with which he is involved.
Frank states that although he is confident all members are fully conversant with the various charities currently supporting ex-service personal and that our association has strong links with those closest to us; our member Ron Spurs has close association with the charity Forces Support and has provided an outline of the kind of help available to our membership.
Frank says that you may wish to note what is available through Forces Support should you ever learn of a needy cause not being helped by SSAFA or our Benevolent Fund.
The text of Ron Spurs communication to Frank is published below:
I don’t know if this may be useful, I am the Chair of Trustees of a national charity called Forces Support.
The charity raises funds through charity shops and employs 120 staff and volunteers. The charity provides funds to charities such as as Stoll Housing, Broughton House in Manchester and the Army Benevolent fund to provide funds for projects for veterans. It does not fund raise directly from the public.
The Charity does not deal directly with individuals, but quite often when all avenues are exhausted they will be directed to us for assistance for housing refurbishment by for example the ABF.
The charity is a member of COBSEO.
With ex RAF personnel the first port of call is usually the RAFBF or SSAFA, if a member’s needs could not be met by those organisations they could be referred to Forces Support.
Hopefully, none of the members will need any help along these lines but if you come across such a case the RAFBF or SSAFA can contact us directly.
